A DUI manslaughter charge with a 0.00 BAC?

A Florida man was charged with DUI manslaughter, for the death of a pedestrian in an incident in Panama City Beach. He was originally charged with a misdemeanor DUI, but the charge was upgraded after the trooper spoke with prosecutors, according to a story in the Herald Tribune.

Supreme Court justices appear skeptical of warrantless DUI blood tests

The Supreme Court heard arguments this week over the right of the police to perform a blood test on a driver accused of DUI without a warrant. The case, out of Missouri, involved a driver who refused a breath test and the blood test. The officer handcuffed him and made him submit to a blood test.

A tougher standard proposed for DUI ignition interlock systems

Florida, like most states, requires drivers convicted of a driving under the influence (DUI) to have an ignition interlock system installed in their vehicles. The ignition interlock is essentially a breath-testing machine connected to the ignition of their vehicle, and the driver must provide a breath sample to the machine prior to starting the vehicle.
